Biodiesel Manufacturing
Because biodiesel manufacturing is fairly simple it is viably possible to produce biodiesel on a small scale at
home. Many biodiesel production equipment manufacturers are now offering biodiesel kits and biodiesel processors
for home use.
Biodiesel can be made from new or used vegetable oils which are chemically reacted with alcohol.
Biodiesel fuel can be blended with conventional fossil fuel diesel or can be used as 100% biodiesel.
One of the major benefits for diesel car owners is the ability to run on differing mixtures of
biodiesel-to-diesel in any ratio.. This is useful because you may not find filling stations supplying biodiesel all
the time so you could fill up with b100 (100% biodiesel), once you get down to a quarter of a tank you may not be
able to fill up with b100 biodiesel so you add regular petroluem diesel instead - this means that you now have b25
(25% biodiesel) in your fuel tank. You could also, over time, be running with any mixture and any ratio in between
as well.
The amount of biodiesel that is being manufactured however is lower than you might expect, but the numbers are
starting to increase rapidly. Many companies were afraid to get involved due to the cost of production and research
for biodiesel. Yet the United States government has tried hard to help offer incentives. They have given tax
credits to those companies that currently manufacture it.
The US government is being very strict on the guidelines and standards for biodiesel though. They want to make
sure this man made fuel alternative is going to be good enough for people to turn to on a regular basis to cut back
on the depletion of natural resources. There is also good news that biodiesel is much better for the environment
than natural resources used for fuel.
Almost all of the companies that produce biodiesel are established in the United States. Many of them are found
around the states of Texas, Kansas, and California. There are a couple of them located in British Columbia as well.
The National Biodiesel Board works very hard to offer quality services to these companies to ensure they are able
to meet the needs of consumers.
It is anticipated that the use of biodiesel will continue to increase due to advances in technology, continued
education, and as production of it increases. As consumers start to trust biodiesel to offer them the same services
for their vehicles and their homes, it will become more of a common natural gas alternative. By 2015 the National
Biodiesel Board believes it will have a large share of the market.
If you are interested in finding out where you can purchase biodiesel, take a look online. You will be able to
click on maps that have each of the areas marked. While the distributors of biodiesel are scattered around the
United States, the majority of them are around Nebraska and Kansas. Within Europe, especially outside of Britain,
Biodiesel is becoming more readily available now.
Biodiesel Processing Accreditation
There is a biodiesel accreditation program in place in the US called BQ-9000. It is a good idea to only purchase
biodiesel from locations that have earned this certification. This is accomplished after the fuel has been tested
and the company has been thoroughly inspected. Random quality assurance checks are done after the certification is
given to ensure the business continues to offer consumers only the best biodiesel from the best biodiesel
manufacturing companies.
